John first started using GCS when
he was selling The Big Issue. He liked being able to see his money build up
especially when, as a homeless person, he had found it hard to get a bank
account from mainstream banks. John had addiction problems and was working
with The Big Issue and the staff to help with his drug problem. He enjoyed
going hill-walking and other outdoor activities. A group trip to the
Dolomites in the Italian Alps for a holiday was also organised and all
members had to save in order to go. Since then he has been clean of drugs
and has managed to hold down a regular job with Edinburgh City Council and
all his money gets paid into his GCS account. John feels that GCS has really
helped him get his life back together because he couldn’t open an account
with any other bank due to his lack of acceptable documentation. |
