Aimee
split from her partner and moved into a flat on her own with her children.
Her partner dealt with all the finances and the family bank account was in
his name only.
Aimee was in GCS
with a friend, who already has an account, and she asked the staff how she
went about opening an account for herself and would she be able to have her
benefits paid in to it. An account was opened for her and her income support
and child benefit was set up to be paid into her account.
Over the past 6
months Aimee managed to get herself a part-time job in a fast-food
restaurant and she now gets her wages, working tax credit, child tax credit
and child benefit all paid into the one account. Aimee said that without GCS
bank account she would never have looked for a job, as she would have felt
embarrassed about telling a potential new employer that she couldn’t get a
mainstream bank account because she doesn’t have sufficient paper work
(passport, driving licence etc). Things are now looking up for Aimee and her
family. |
